Evernote just made mobile way more powerful

Hi Reader –

All summer, I’ve been sharing Evernote mobile features, tips, and use cases. Meanwhile, Evernote has been focused on improving mobile functionality all year.

Last week, Evernote rolled out one of its most requested mobile features — multi-select. And it's just one part of what they have planned for mobile users.

Note: You must have Mobile v10.152.1+ to access these features.

Let me break down what's new, why it matters, and what's still coming.

Multi-Select: The Game-Changer We've Been Waiting For

If you've ever tried to organize dozens of notes on your phone, you know the frustration. One note at a time. Move, tag, organize — repeat. It was tedious.

But not anymore.

Multi-select lets you select multiple notes at once and perform bulk actions right from your phone.

Here's what you can now do:

  • Move multiple notes to different notebooks at once

  • Grab the note links to all the selected notes

  • Add tags to several notes simultaneously

  • Delete multiple notes in one action

This is massive for mobile productivity. You can finally batch process your notes efficiently, whether you're clearing out your default notebook or organizing after a conference.

What Mobile Multi-Select Can't Do

Note that mobile multi-select doesn't have all the same features as desktop. Most notably, you can't merge notes on mobile — that's still a desktop-only function.

But for the core organizational tasks most people need on mobile, this covers the essentials.

New Search Experience

The revamped (and much improved!) desktop search modal that was released earlier this summer is in the process of rolling out to mobile.

Now on mobile, you’ll get suggestions that match your search term in real time, and a refreshed default state that displays your recent searches, saved searches, and recently created notes. It’s much more intuitive, and so nice!

This refreshed search experience is slowly rolling out – if you don’t have it yet, make sure you're on the latest version and know that it’s coming to you soon. (Not everyone will have it on day 1.)

Other Recent Mobile Improvements

Multi-select and improved search aren’t the only mobile upgrades this year. Evernote has been incrementally improving the mobile experience, including:

Performance Boosts

Evernote has reduced wait times when opening or creating notes on mobile:

  • iOS: 96.5% of users now load the editor in under 1 second (up from 76%)

  • Android: 97% of users load the editor in under 2 seconds (up from 69%)

Better Account Navigation

Accessing your account on mobile is now more intuitive with logout options in the account dropdown.

And the sorting order of your search results is now preserved across sessions.

These might seem like small details, but they add up to a significantly smoother mobile experience, especially for those who work in more than one account.

More Is Coming

And there are other improvements in development that I've gotten a sneak preview of... but I can't talk about them yet. Let's just say mobile users have even more to look forward to.

The investment in mobile is real and ongoing. After years of mobile feeling like the "little sibling" to desktop Evernote, it's finally getting the attention it deserves.

Why Mobile Innovation Matters

Mobile Evernote has always excelled at capture and quick reference. But organization? For years, I’ve told people you should wait until you get back to your computer to organize what you’ve captured.

Multi-select changes things. Multi-select + performance improvements mean you can now handle significant organizational tasks away from your computer. Evernote mobile is becoming a strong productivity powerhouse rather than just a capture and find tool.

And, the improvements are amplified for tablet users. It’s still true that Evernote Mobile (which is how you engage with Evernote on iPads and other tables) doesn’t have the full feature set of Evernote Desktop. But, these latest mobile improvements – combined with the larger screen real estate of a tablet – makes using Evernote on your iPad a step closer to the Evernote Desktop experience.

This is especially valuable for users who are increasingly mobile-first, or for those moments when you need to organize on the go.

It's been a strong year for mobile improvements, and we're not done yet. The future of Evernote mobile is looking brighter than ever.

Cheers to your productivity —

Stacey
