Stop pocket-editing your notes

Hi Reader –

Picture this: You pull out your phone to check an important note, only to discover that half the content has mysteriously vanished.

Sound familiar?

You've been "pocket-editing" — accidentally modifying notes while your phone bounces around in your pocket or purse. It's the digital equivalent of a pocket dial, except instead of calling someone by mistake, you're deleting important information.

Fortunately, there's a simple fix.

Edit Protection: Your Safety Net

Evernote has a setting called "Edit Protection" that requires you to double-tap a note before you can edit it, instead of the default single tap.

This small change prevents those frustrating moments when you accidentally select text, delete content, or add random characters to your notes while your phone is moving around.

How to Enable Edit Protection

On mobile:

  • Tap your profile icon

  • Select Settings

  • Tap Notes

  • Toggle on Edit protection

That's it. Now, when you open a note, it displays in read-only mode until you intentionally double-tap to edit.

When You Actually Want to Edit

With edit protection enabled, editing is still easy — just double-tap anywhere in the note body when you want to make changes.

The double-tap is intuitive enough that you'll quickly adapt, but deliberate enough to prevent accidents.

A Small Change, Big Peace of Mind

Edit protection is one of those features you don't think about until you need it.

But once you've accidentally deleted an important note or scrambled your carefully organized content, you'll wish you'd enabled it sooner.

Take 30 seconds right now to toggle this on. If you feel like you’ve been “losing data” on mobile, you’ll be glad you did.

Cheers to your productivity —
