How to stop squinting at your phone when using Evernote

Hi Reader –

Ever catch yourself holding your phone at arm's length, squinting at text like you're trying to read the fine print on a contract?

Same.

(Hello, aging eyes. 🙄)

If you're in this camp when using Evernote, I have good news.

Evernote has mobile-specific font settings.

But instead of using them, most are doing one of two things:

  1. Suffering through microscopic text

  2. Making their desktop notes they want readable on mobile comically huge (yes, Academy members have shared this strategy with me)

Neither is necessary.

There's a simple fix.

Note Content Size: Easy on the Eyes

If you’re struggling to read your notes on mobile, there's a setting that will make your life so much easier: Note Content Size.

Where to find it: Settings → Notes → Note Content Size

You get two choices:

Option 1: Match Phone Settings This mirrors whatever font size you've set for your entire phone.

Option 2: Evernote-Specific Size Choose Normal, Large, or Extra Large just for Evernote, regardless of your phone's global settings.

I typically recommend Option 2.

Here's why: Your phone's global font size affects every app. Do you really need giant text in your calculator? Probably not.

But Evernote? That's where you're reading detailed notes and project info on a tiny screen. Bigger text = less squinting.

There's a preview right below the setting that shows exactly how your text will look in a note. No guessing required.

Default Font Styles

While you're in your Evernote settings, don't skip this one: default font settings.

A small change here can make a big impact on your daily note-taking.

If certain fonts are easier on your eyes, make that your standard for all new notes. No more manually changing fonts for mobile every single time.

Two ways to change it:

  • From settings: Go to Settings → Notes → Default font settings → Normal text

  • From a note: Use the font formatting dropdown in the note editor. After you change the text, look for "Change default settings…"

Heads up: Whatever you pick applies to new notes on every device — desktop, mobile, web, all of them. So choose wisely. Pick something that looks good everywhere, not just on your phone.

A Small Change That Makes a Big Difference

Mobile font settings might seem like a tiny detail, but readable text means less friction.

This makes it more delightful to use Evernote on your phone to reference information, capture ideas, and stay organized because the experience feels natural instead of frustrating.

Take two minutes to adjust these settings.

Your eyes will thank you.

Cheers to your productivity —
