Let’s Meet at RE BlogWorld: October 14-16, 2010

September 18, 2010 by · 4 Comments

It’s time once again to get excited about next month’s BlogWorld and New Media Expo and RE BlogWorld.  This will be my third time heading to Vegas to enjoy this progressive conference event which attracts pioneers of modern marketing and the cool kids of social media.

The opportunity to see how new media is playing out across industries is one of the greatest benefits of this conference.  The case studies and lessons presented from outside of real estate provide the basis for inspiration for innovation within our industry.  And, thanks to Jason Berman and his team, we in the real estate space have the opportunity to not only attend Blog World and experience the latest and greatest across a diversity of industries, but we can deep dive into what is happening in the real estate blogging space with a one day industry vertical at RE Blog World on Thursday, October 14th.

And I’m honored to have been selected as one of the presenters for RE Blog World.  Ricardo Bueno and I will be presenting Innovative Real Estate Blogs and Their Secret Plugins and we are actively working on uncovering the best examples of WordPress real estate blogs and websites (know something you think should be showcased?  Send me a note).  We’ll be talking about the must-have functionality that will make for a successful real estate blog and sharing what technology it takes for real estate agents to bring those elements to life in their own blogs.  Why reinvent the wheel?  Learn from others by seeing the technology that the best real estate blogs offer.  Here’s the details from the RE Blog World site on our presentation.

Innovative Real Estate Blogs & Their Secret Plugins
Thursday October 14, 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Secrets. They’re sexy … they’re seductive. And when you can employ them to get the most out of your blog, they’re sizzlingly smart, too. Stacey Harmon & Ricardo Bueno will show you the best-of-the-best; what the real innovators in RE blogging are doing to show off their creative skills & style. From the easiest WordPress setup to the blogs that push the edge of the envelope, you’ll see examples of who’s doing it, and doing it well. Not just visually pleasing, but deliciously technical, you’ll get the inside scoop on which themes and plug-ins will take your blog from so-so to super-sexy.

Careful care was taken by the organizers to make sure that the content and curriculum at RE Blog World is worth the price of admission and the full program of RE Blog World shows that the presenters selected are some of the best in our space.  The schedule is packed with valuable content presented by full time, practicing Realtors and Brokers who have put the power of social media and technology to work for them in their practice.  The new media credibility of these Realtors – people like Dale Chumbley, Ted Mackel, Jay Thompson, Sarah Stelmok, Teresa Boardman, Kelley Koehler, and Garron Selliken – is as good as it gets and these presentations from “those in the trenches” is certain to provide outstanding value for the real estate professional looking to learn from the best.

The program is supplemented with expert advice and perspective from people like:

  • Analytics guru Gahlord Dewald, who has a gift for distilling down the complex world of analytics and SEO into business relevant, digestible information that can be put immediately to use in your business, power-duo
  • Industry super-stars Reggie and Nicole Nicolay who will bring the world of WordPress 3.0 to life for today’s agent
  • Power real estate blogger and technical aficionado Dave Smith who will demystify the technical details of blogging and keep your blog up and running amongst a patchwork of plugins and widgets
  • Industry thinker and sometimes antagonist, Rob Hahn who will moderate a passionate panel designed to determine if the real estate blog is dead.
  • Social media icon Brian Solis who will be presenting the keynote address.   I had the pleasure of seeing Brian Solis speak a few weeks ago and could not have been more impressed with the clarity and power of his message.  Doubt the longevity or impact social media has in the business world?  You won’t by the time Brian is done speaking.  And for the newly converted and believers alike, you’ll walk away with a polished perspective that will motivate.  This will be an outstanding start to the day and huge business opportunity not to be missed.

I’m also looking forward to meeting you.  The people I meet at both RE Blog World are people I learn from all year long.  It attracts some of the most curious, progressive, and innovative Realtors and professionals in our industry.  Come be a part of that.  Let’s connect in person.

So…get your creative juices flowing.  Be inspired.  Figure all this social media stuff out.  Take your blog to the next level.  Grow your network.  Build your business.  Let’s learn together.

Register here and I’ll see you in Vegas!

Social Media Learning Opportunities Abound at this Years CAR Expo in Anaheim

September 18, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

The first week of October brings the Annual California REALTOR® Expo to Anaheim California.  California REALTOR Expo is described as “the premier trade show for California’s real estate industry.  This annual event features one-of-a-kind educational, networking and professional development opportunities designed specifically for California REALTORS®.”  And, of particular interest to me is the ample opportunity for social media learning and digital strategy development that is woven into and around this years event.  I’ll be presenting, and participating in several of the Expo events.  Catch up with me October 4-7th in Anaheim.  Here is where you can find me:

1.  CALIFORNIA REALTOR® EXPO Main Event

On Wednesday, October 6th from 9:00 am – 10:00 am, I’ll be speaking on Social Media Strategy for Newbies:  How To Get Started. A firm believer in the importance of incorporating digital marketing strategies into a real estate business plan, I’m excited to be presenting on this topic with the goal of getting Realtors pointed down the right path with social media.  I understand how the myriad of digital tools – such as blogging, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, FourSquare, texting, email, CRM systems, websites – can seem like too many options and technically overwhelming to many agents.  In addition, the pace of technology evolution can leave some feeling left in the dust.  My goal is to simplify the seemingly complex, discuss the foundational elements you need to succeed in social media, focus the audience on a strategy that will be an effective and practical, and highlight where today’s Realtor should focus their time and resources.  C.A.R. EXPO is a member benefit and as a result, there is no fee to attend if you are a member of the California Association of Realtors.  You just need to register here and you are in.

2.       Tech Tuesday

The day before my presentation, I’ll also be attending Tech Tuesday on Tuesday, October 5th.  Not familiar with Tech Tuesday?  Here’s what it is about:

Tech Tuesday provides a full day of tech-savvy sessions for REALTORS®. Scheduled for Oct. 5, this must-attend event will empower you to weave technology into your daily business to remain effective and efficient in today’s evolving marketplace

Whether you consider yourself a tech novice or a member of real estate’s digital elite, Tech Tuesday offers an array of sessions focusing on the hot topics you need to know more about, now.

The Tech Tuesday lineup if filled with some great sessions and outstanding speakers. There is a heavy focus on social media and I believe Tech Tuesday is a good investment for any Realtor looking for quality presenters talking about business relevant technologies of today.  I’ll be attending many of the sessions and look forward to watching presentations by many of my friends and colleagues in the space. There is always something new to learn. Tech Tuesday costs $95 to attend and you can register at the CAR Expo website.

3.       RE BarCamp Expo

On Monday, October 4th, I, along with many of the Tech Tuesday speakers, will be attending RE BarCamp CAR Expo (also at the Anaheim convention center).  REBarCamp CAR Expo is a free, one day gathering of technology curious REALTORS® and industry professionals who come together to discuss how social media and technology are evolving the business of real estate.  I’ve been actively involved in prior RE BarCamps which happen all over the nation, having coordinated RE BarCamp Orange County two years running and RE BarCamp NAR in San Diego last year.  RE BarCamp is a full day of networking and learning and if you are in the Anaheim area on Monday and want to soak up some great information on technology and real estate, you should plan to attend.  There is no cost to participate in this event, but you do need to pre-register at the RE BarCamp CAR Expo website.

One of my favorite parts about attending events like the CAR Expo is the people that I meet.  If you will be attending my session, or any of the surrounding events, please introduce yourself.  And, if you are on twitter, send me a tweet (@staceyharmon) so we connect.  See you in Anaheim!

Will You Be at RE Blog World? Come See Me Speak!

RE Blog World BlogWorld150

I’m excited to announce that I have been asked to speak at Real Estate Blog World, the one day industry vertical partner program preceding the Blog World and New Media Expo in Las Vegas.  I will be part of a panel discussing Business to Business marketing in real estate using social media (full conference schedule here).  My social media strategy and execution experience over the past year with Pango Group and their affiliated companies has given me much hands on experience with this topic and I look forward to sharing my perspective with those in attendance.  And I hope that includes you!  Have you registered yet?

If you are trying to decide if the expense is worth it for you, let me share my experience from attending last year.  I got talked into attending RE Blog World and Blog World at the last minute by Rob Hahn, and I was very hesitant to make the investment.  However, I am so grateful I did.  The conference was outstanding for me for several reasons.  First, at RE BlogWorld I met many of the people who are the movers and shakers in the RE.net.  Those introductions helped set the stage for the fun, fast paced, and successful year I’ve had since.  My work and social networks expanded in ways I didn’t anticipate.  I also learned a lot -  from the practical (Derek Overbey taught me about @replies and Tweet Deck for goodness sake!) to the theoretical.  Also, the main Blog World & Social Media Expo was filled with social media superstars.  The pioneers who influenced me and I watch on-line (people such as Lee LeFever and Guy Kawasaki) were sitting there, right next to me in sessions learning right along with me.   Others like Tim Ferriss and Mike Shinoda gave fascinating keynotes on stage opening my eyes to the power of social media in businesses unlike mine.  And, as Jeff Turner so eloquently reminded us at Inman Connect in San Francisco last month, innovation always comes from outside our industry.  Blog World provides access to social media applications and issues across industries and is presented by the biggest names out there.  For this reason alone, the conference is not to be missed.

The world of social media moves so fast.  The evolution of social media within real estate has been tremendous over the past year – I’ve seen it grow immensely from one RE BarCamp to the next, and one Inman Conference to the next.  RE Blog World will help those of us focused on the real estate industry to get a pulse on where things are at, what are the challenges, and help shed light on the opportunities.  And, I’m fascinated to see how social media has evolved outside the real estate industry in the past year and hear the impressions and creativity of those who drive social media in their business.   I’m honored to be contributing this year to RE Blog World and am very excited to see the other speakers lined up for the entire event.  I got so much out of blog world last year and can’t wait for this year.  I’ll see you there!
